Dogo Argentina

dogo argentino pict
As a guard dog, the Dogo Argentino was expected not only to bark a warning at strangers and stop intruders, but to do so with such determination as to fight an intruder to the death, if needed, without being distracted by any injury inflicted to itself during the course of the battle. The base stock was made up of 10 different breeds: They used the Old Cordoba Fighting Dog as the basis (now extinct) and then cross bred Mastiffs, Bulldogs and Bull Terriers, Boxer, English Pointer, Bull Terrier, Old English Bulldog, Mastiff, Dogue De Bordeaux, Harlequin Great Dane, Pyrenean Mastiff and Irish Wolfhound. Dogo argentino breeders: The resulting breed, not only met Martinez, original expectations as a big game hunter and family guardian but has also been successful as a guide dogy and in military and police work. He created a bullish and fearless hunter with great stamina and a light coat capable of deflecting, rather than absorbing, heat. The breed instantly appealed to people who organize and enjoy dogfights, an activity still popular in many parts of South America and elsewhere. Unfortunately this gave the dog a bad reputation in Britain. Britain has national legislation to control dogs in public.

They also used the Great Pyrenees to gain the long white coat and protective nature, and finally, the Spanish Mastiff to give the dog its full measure of power .
Physically, the Dogo gives an overall impression of great power. He is heavy-boned and very muscular, with a massive head, strong neck and deep broad body. The short, thick coat is always white so as not to absorb heat. The Dogo is alert, determined, fearless.
